The general purpose of the Perry County Families First Resource Center is to provide services which will ultimately break the cycle of poverty for children and their families . PRVO addresses the following four (4) goals at the Perry County Family Resource Center: 1) To reduce child abuse and neglect; 2) To encourage responsible childbearing and reduce out-of-wedlock pregnancies; 3) To help participants become better parents; 4) To provide educational opportunities for low-income individuals that will increase basic skill levels, enhance employability skills, and promote education. These services are provided in Walthall, Lamar, Perry, Jefferson Davis, and Covington Counties.

PRVO uses an innovative approach to getting parents to participate: 1) Parents whose children are enrolled in after-school tutoring sessions must attend parenting classes; 2) Provides a parent educator who motivates and encourages participants to come back again and again; 3) Provide services for youth that are directly related to their achieving a higher educational status; and 4) Provide services for youth that are interesting, fun, and exciting.

PRVO provides comprehensive services that include, but are not limited to:

• Healthy Marriage

• Abstinence

• Fatherhood Initiative

• Parenting Classes
